Background: The Iron Cross was introduced as a war decoration in 1813 by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. In 1914, Kaiser Wilhelm II renewed the foundation of the Order. Today, the EK can be seen as a national emblem of the Bundeswehr on all vehicles of the German military.
