Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the front of the lens. In addition, because the lens is extended, you also get added protection from accidental impact. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific length of the lens it was made for. Compatible with: AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR The lens hood provides a cost-effective solution to problems caused by sunlight, rain, and wind-blown debris, and is valuable in providing protection against knocks and damage. Lens hoods block side light and augment the protection provided by filters to the lens surface and ring. The design ensures a secure fit on the lens.
